Junior School in the Community

junior school in the communityAs a school we take a pride in taking part in the local community and participating in local activities wherever possible.

Members of the school choirs and instrumentalists enjoy playing to the residents of local homes for the elderly, especially at Christmas time. Harvest gifts are donated to High Hurlands and pupils visit the residents as part of our Arts Week Project.

The school Gardening Club is part of “The Liphook in Bloom” initiative and have great fun in taking part in their annual competition for local school children. This year saw the children making miniature gardens and here is a photo of our prize exhibit which managed to claim a Runner’s Up prize.

Twice a year the gardening club visit Fletcher’s Field, warden assisted homes where they plant either bulbs (Autumn) or bedding plants (Spring.) Such activities help to maintain a good community  feeling in Liphook and the wider area.

Recently, year 6 has started an “Adopt a Granny” project and pupils have also spent time with children visiting Petersfield from Belarus,as part of the work by the Chernobyl Children’s Life Link Charity.  Using translators the children quickly bonded and enjoyed their time together – they found art a fantastic way to share their experiences and when words failed they drew images to explain their ideas!!
