I attended Churchers from 1981 to 1986. I moved to the USA in 1988. I will be visiting England July 23-Aug 6th and would like to catch up with some of my class mates. Please email me. Thanks.
Doug, when I was a day boy living in Bordon I used to travel on the No 6 bus and you used to get on at Whitehill. Your cap, if ever worn, was always at a an amazing rakish angle. I became a boarder in 1959 and went to Welbeck College in 1961. You were supposed to come to the 63 reunion where were you? Do you remember Rosemary Gricks from the High School who used to get on at Whitehill?
Any geriatric OCs (like myself) who can remember Norman Dear, former Spitfire pilot and Games Master at CC from 1946 to 1948 may be interested to know that he died recently at a great age. After leaving Churchers he had an additional college year and then re entered the RAF for 5 years. On leaving the Air Force for a second time he resumed teaching until he retired. He continued his association with athletics into old age.
We exchanged letters a few years ago when he was living at Bicker, near Boston in Lincolnshire. A decent honourable man who served his country well in war and peace.
We're looking for information and photos of a former student and teacher at Churcher's College. Cyril Henry Coles was a student there about 1914 and 1915, leaving to join the army (he lied about his age). A modern languages instruction named Radwell or possible Redwell was a major influence. We would like information on Radwell and any personal stories about Coles for a introduction to a book written by Coles, Drink to Yesterday. If anyone has pictures of Coles or Radwell from old yearbooks we would really like to acquire these.
Does anyone out there have copies of The Churcherian between 1957 and 1964 which they want to part with or lend me for something I'm researching? Looking forward to another reunion of our year in 2009.
Greetings to those old,old boys from 1942-49 from a grey-haired but lively
Old Churcherian. I am living in Plymouth and trying to make an income from writing. Great memories of Mr Hogarth, Larry, Perp, Scully, and the Geograhy master who colored my face with chalk when he found me walking down Love Lanewith one of Scully' twin daughters I have got photographs of the Corps band, with Joey Brooks as Drum Major, The Utopians Dance Band with the Pullen Bros,Hayes, Polhill and yours truly on the trumpet, the Rugby XV from 1948.
Let's hear from you and see if we can get a re-union organised.
Best wishes to all
Bob
Howard, I live in Half Moon Bay, California, down the coast on Highway 1 about 25 miles south of San Francisco. At the moment though I spend a lot of my time back in the Uk as I am now retired.
I can relate to this as well as I joined from Midhurst Grammar in the 4th year and left at the end of the 5th in 68 having failed to get entry to the 6th form for not getting enough o levels and now after numerous jobs live and work on south wales
I was wondering what became of everyone who started at Churcher's in September 1969 in Mr Walsh's Class, 1W.
I joined Shell Tankers for 4 years then became an Army Officer with the Royal Hampshires then the Royal Regiment of Wales. After serving with the Army for 20 years, I resigned and joined the Canadian Army and have been living over in Kingston Ontario with my family for 7 years now. I think I still remeber the class roll call for 1W which was(?);
Airey, Beattie, Broderick, Brown, Chafer, Collins, Cox, Dennis, Easton, Emmerton, Franks, Harding, Harmer, Harrison, Hope, Jarman, Kelly, Meacock (same Birthday as me, July 4th!), Morrel, Parson, Phelps, Phillips, Pickford, Rubra, Salway, Snow, Templeman, Tuley, Wade, Fierman & Knight.
There's a re-union for the Class of '82 (including all those who left in the fifth in '80) on Saturday 29th September 2007. For more details please get in touch with me or with Karen at the College. Or visit http://www.favourite-sites.co.uk/reunion.html.
This board frustrates me.
After fifty years the memories confuse.
We need more clues to reconnect.
Why not publish the year calenders' names? We lived by them
Our needs to reconnect depend on our circumstances.
For instance, I have been diagnosed with cancer and a variety of probabilities. It changes my priorities.
HOWEVER this site is not secure.
Shortly I shall send pictures from 1957/58/59 - if my daugheters can agree to release them from the basement in Calgary.
Actually Morganna brought then to the college in 2005 -- but no one was there to accept them.
Upper Sixth 2008 -- Please get organized? The development secretary
works hard. But alumini interconnects can do far more.

thankyou to karen and david for the 45-55 reunion lunch. how marvellous to meet so many from nearly 60 years ago. we all seemed to share something of immeasurable value! thankyou all
My brother Malcolm (1943-48)and I (1945-51) are attending the 45-55 reunion at Churcher's hope to see some of you of that vintage at the event if you are still alive. My brother lives in the UK and I live in California. I found this website through Google. Quite amazing. I have the 1946 and 1948 school photos so that is how I remember everyone, so I am sure it will be easy to recognise everyone. I would welcome any contact from Old Churcherian visiting the San Francisco area - please contact the Development Office, they have my email and phone details.
All those who left in 1992 are invited to attend our first reunion on September 29th 2007. Drinks and lunch at school, no doubt followed by a hefty session in the pub. Please get in touch for further details, either with me, or with Karen Kelley at the Development Office at school. Please do let everyone in our year know about this, especially if you have any random contacts!
In the latest news letter it is mentioned that the whereabouts of Danny Gilbert (59) is requested. If he is locared could you please pass on my details as I would also like to contact him.
Danny was due to attend my wedding in 1962 but decided to get married himself the very same day (unknown to his parents who were attending mine.
Imagine the awkward situation i And my wife Joan were in trying not to "spill the beans" while his parents were continually apologising for his absence.
Please contact the College who will supply my details.
Your assistance would be thankfully received
I was a boarder at the college from Sept 54 to July 60. I have now retired from British Airways Citiexpress as a 20,000 hour captain and live in the Philippines with Jean my wife. Any contemporaries who are interested are welcome to get in touch.
Dave and Jean Harris
I will be visiting UK from Australia for the first time in 4 years for 2 weeks at the beginning of Sept 07. I have lost several email addresses of friends in my year. I am asking them to get in touch so that I can arrange a get together. Thanks, Lisa.
Hi to anyone that knew me. Andy Weeble - yes I too want a pair of those socks - quality ! Does anyone know if Mr Eaton still works at Churcher's and who I can get hold of to play in next years OC hockey match? Quick update from me - I am married now to Tina, no nippers yet. Working for a government Department in IT. Hope anyone from 86-91 is also doing well. Brett
Left 1967, but should have been 1968 as I did not complete the A-level course. I lived at Liphook, and usually went to Churchers on the 24 bus. I was implicated in the setting up of an (illegal) pirate radio sation on the medium waves, in I think 1967, for a day some time in the summer term, with pretty appalling modulation, and no doubt harmonics all over the spectrum.
Am I the only person who hasn't either been a test pilot or a barrister, who hasn't lived in the South Seas or California, who wasn't any good at sport, but who has made something of his life despite failed marriages and living in scummy Totton, just outside Southampton! I did run into Nigel Osgood in a pub in Lyndhurst, Hants, about 7 years ago, but otherwise haven't seen anyone for years. So are any of you, who like me went to Churchers because we passed the 11 plus, and are thus ordinary bods, out there?
If you have just discovered this website and were at Churcher's College between 1945 and 1955 please let me know if you are interested in attending a reunion lunch cost £25 for three courses plus wine on 24.5.2007.
Just a quick hello to those who know me. Wondered if the hockey team still wore those fantastic red, white and blue socks and it looks like they do. Anyone know how to get hold of a pair? They were always my favourite socks and it was a sad day when they finally died some years ago. Always wanted to get another pair. I hope all is well with my colleagues from '92. All the best, Andy.
1959-67 - I really regret never having kept in touch cos they were undoubtedly the best days ever. Is there anyone out there who cares to admit ever remebering those days and would like to get in touch. I live up north now but also spend part of the year out in New Zealand so it would be great to hear from any kiwis. All the very best anyway to everyone who remembers me - hope you don't have any nightmares
To inform the school of an outstanding achievement. Chris Menzies (Captain of College 2003-2004)has been selected for a top internship at Goldman Sachs. This is a highly competitive position, with over 8000 applicants. The placement will take place over the summer is expected to end with the offer of a permanent position.
Bourley Camp reminiscences Alec Rainbow. Yes I remember it well. Regimental Sergeant Major Britten of the Coldstreams or was it Grenadiers. Winchester College were in the lines next to ours, they all carried swagger sticks which we thought was rather snobby.
Best, Bishop, Bradford, Catt, Corkett, Cowdrey ... That was the start of the 2a rollcall in 1947. Some of us survived until 1952. I'd be interested to hear from any of the class.
Anyone out there that left 83-85 in my year, reunion a couple of years ago, blimey doesn't time race away!? Particularly interested in another social event, likely attendees Lee Lloyd, Bob Carter, Simon Newton, Mark Rice, Rob Picot and anyone else who fancies it. Likely conversations include beer, cars, marriage/divorce/children. All the best, Paul
Raise we a strain in cheerful vein
And sing aloud in chorus
In honour to hold our founder bold,
And those who went before us,
They lifted high the flag we fly
Which proudly waves above us.
The ship they plann'd must be well mann'd,
Our sailing then will prove us,
CHORUS
"Credita Coelo!"
Lustily we sing!
Floreant Churcheria!
Make the rafters ring!
We'll pass the torch undimmed along
And in all loyal endeavour,
We'll strive with zest to do our best
That the ship may sail for ever.
-------------
Flow gentle seas,
Blow favouring breeze
And let the good ship ride,
With steady pace,
And comely grace
Upon a rising tide.
Nor storm, nor calm the vessel harm
While on her way she presses;
That all and each who learn or teach,
May share in her successes.
REPEAT CHORUS.
(I think Mr Harwood, music master of the mid 40s had a lot to do with the song, either the words or the music, maybe both. It was normally sung as written above, except for substituting the word "lustfully" for "lustily"!!(No girls in Churchers then, they were all in the High School down the road!) This was copied out from an insert in my old school hymnbook still in my possession.
Form my year book 1966
Credita Coelo
The school song was composed by TW Lane music teacher as I recall and had two verses. Can't remember 2nd verse though. Carrying on from Peter Hugget, "and in all loyal endeavour, we'll pass the torch undimed along, That the ship may sail for ever."
It's been quite a while since I browsed through the site but its good to see the various developments in the College.
Wow - 2006 is almost here and it's a strange feeling to think that it was over a decade ago since I was in the college.
Anyway if anyone drops by Singapore, please drop me a line - as always, its a pleasure to reunite with old friends and make news ones.
I attended the College between 47 and 48 and would like to locate Peter Ross and Philippe Laxton. I now live in France and can still remember the College song!
Please be advised that James has qualified as a barrister at the recent Calling to the Bar ceremony at London's Grays Inn. James, Churchers 1983-90, gained an Economics degree at Swansea and subsequently worked for the NatWest, AA and for the past five years as an adjudicator with the Financial Services Ombudsman. He will shortly take up an appointment with the Texas Justice Department in Houston.
I attended Churcher's between 47 and 48 and would like to contact Peter Ross and Philippe Laxton. Now living in France - and still remember the College song!

I am trying to get contact information for brothers Michael and David Forrest who attended the school circa 1986-90. I know that they returned to America last time I communicated with them, but have since lost touch so if anyone knows where they might be please get in touch or pass on my contact details.
Thanks!

Anyone interested in work in America is welcome to contact me. I currently live & work in Virginia and would be happy to help anyone interested in work out here to search through the work place and find a place to stay / live while visiting. Anyone from class of 97 especially welcome. Browning, Yeomans, Aykroyd - you out there?
BARRIE ROBERTS (57) &
BILL SAVILE (58)
Are determined to appear at CC on the Open Day (2nd July) and would welcome any other fifties wrinklies who can get their bathchairs there or persuade their keepers to bring them.
Anybody wanting to play in the Old Boys' cricket match on the 2nd July against the current 1st XI then please email me asap. Free lunch, tea and wine available to anyone who fancies turning their arm over! Any age, ability considered!
Just a quick word to say thanks to Simon Hance and Ross Moyler for arranging class of 94 reunion. My how everyone has changed!! . Really interesting to hear everyone's news, even if i didn't recognise a couple of people until they told me who they were!! ( and; no, it wasn't the wine! ). Am currently in midst of my specialist registrar exams for anaesthetics and intensive care and would ultimately like to be an intensivist ( as americans call us ). Not a lot of private work but lots of repatriation work which involves picking up sick people in other countries and flying them back to UK. Am toying with idea of doing stint with medecins sans frontieres in august as feel need a new challenge at the moment.
Hope you all had happy christmas and best wishes for new year!
To All studying at Churchers between 1957-1962:
My dad Dr John Parker, also known as Edward, sadly died on Sunday 28th November 2004 aged 58. He battled fiercley with a brain haemorrhage for three weeks. Myself and my three siblings were so proud of him and will all miss him terribly. He was an active member of the local community who contributed his time to local churches, magazine publishing, schools, Gideons, Scouts, Nature and Wildlife Trusts, International charities, Fair Trade, Singing Groups, European language organisations and of course his many many family and friends. He touched many lives around the world, especially in Africa where we lived for 3 years. We hope you have fond memories of our dad at his time in Churchers College, a school he was very proud of.
I would like to hear from anyone who remembers me 1949-1955.especially those sports fans and those that travelled on the train from portsmouth everyday
My brother Frank and I were at Churcher's from 1933 to 1938. I was Briant2. Frank died in 1999. I was born in Uruguay and, except for my years at the College and three years as a volunteer in the Royal Navy (Coastal Forces) during WW2, my life has been spent in Argentina. Most of my special friends at Churcher's were killed in the war but if there are any out there who remember me, it would be great to hear from them, specially: Keith (Mickey) Andrew;Kenneth O Parsons; John Porter and Gerry Coates.
Thank you very much
Ronnie Briant
OLD CHURCHERIANS CRICKET
If there is anybody out there who can recognise a cricket bat and would be interested in playing for an elite bunch of sportsmen against the school 1stXI on Open Day (3rd July)then please get in touch with either Rich or Ed Milner-Smith. It remains an annual fixture and there is a very nice lunch...
1954 to 1963 was a long time - there must be a few of my contemporaries still alive and kicking! Now in Edinburgh but keen to reminisce. Don't they have 50yr reunions?
It is with great sadness that I relay to all OC's the news of the passing of Nick Cuell (left 1975) after an eight year battle with leukaemia. althoughI didn't know nick at school (2 years up on me y'see) I got to know him recently through my new partner, Allison who had been a friend of his for over 30 years, what a small world! Nick was a top bloke, kind, clever and courageous, I just wish I'd known him at school (always useful to have a 3rd former for a mate when you're a new boy). He leaves a widow, Heather and loads of friends who will all miss his company and sense of humour.
John, if you are the ginger-haired Wilkie who sang The Worm Song every last Sunday morning of term, J.P.Wilkinson I believe, then I recall you, if only because GTS & TCT blamed me for your last escapade (something to do with the books from Miss Haydock's classroom!) If you let the Development Office release your e-mail address to me, I'll tell you all about it! I have often wondered what became of you after 1956.
I'd love to hear from anyone who recalls the era 1961 to 1969, and some of the characters and happenings of the time. Even if they weren't all good at the time, they contributed to what we are, and presumably still are! Also,
is there a Churchers' address to which I could send some ramblings and thoughts, that others may enjoy - in the form of e-mail attachments? Nothing salacious or unkind, I promise!
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers him without too much regret -- particularly Peter W.Bennett (1956), Malcolm Mackintosh (59), Dave Cox (59), Robert W.Middleton (57),Michael J.Fuller (59?),but any contemporaries. Come on chaps! It's been fifty years --- some of you must be out of jail by now!
Sad news I'm afraid.
Dave Owens (At Churchers 1962-1967)lost his courageous battle with cancer on 7th February 2004.
Dave leaves a wife and son, and a daughter from a previous marriage. Dave was a great bass guitarist and singer but, more importantly, a good and close friend. His passing will leave a gaping hole in the lives of those who were privileged to know him.
It would appear that many pass through New Zealand at some stage or another. I have made my home here and love it. My door is always open to those passing through and it would be great to catch up with old friends. So if you are heading this way it would be great to hear from you. I am sure Karen will assist in putting you in touch.
having been a pupil at CC (& my dad & brother) and a keen member of the CCF (Navy!!!!), I am now in a position to offer anyone who's interested, the chance to book an Army Band for an engagement, to join the Army as a musician, or to come up to see us at work on a work experience type thing. I am now the Bandmaster of the Band of The Dragoon Guards, based in Swanton Morley, Norfolk. I appreciate that it is a long way away, but the offer is there, nonetheless. if you would like to write, please contact the Development Office at the College who will give you my address.
Last class mate I saw was Wilson whom I bumped into at a Bank on University Avenue -- then I got a fine for speeding when we went for dinner! So where are you all from 1952 to 1959. I still have some Sixth form pictures -- half naked fools in front of the gym. Well dressed young men in front of the Chem lab and a high school picture of all those ladies! The ones Sarky used to call our little problems in life.
Anyone out there? I'm still in Canada but getting older by the moment.
I'm interested in contacting anyone who left around 1965-1966 -- eg DJ Murray; AN Cooper; JJ Treasure -- to find out what's been happening to my contemporaries.
Duncan Martin and I (Richard Goodall) would like to have a reunion for the rugby tour of South Africa of 2000 as many have now graduated. Could you provide us with Kev's e-mail mail so we could start aranging such an event for early to mid september. (Possibly as a warm uip for the forth coming 1st XV) Please forward this to king Kev, look forward to hearing from you. Rich and Dunx
Anyone around that were at the College from 42 to 46? Have picture of Band c1946.Pullen as master outside front window.Dave Stevenson as silver bugler.Any photos of this period about?
Gavin, assuming the same from late '70s Dad in army, Custom Transit, great party, house with park out the back(that was then). As you can tell from the e-mail I now leave in New Zealand, would be great to get an e-mail from you, say hi to your brother.
Chris
Wot no messages! Come on guys if anything was free when we were at the school we used to abuse it without mercy!
Happy new year to anyone cruising this board!
Gavin D
