This photo is of me on the summit of Mont Blanc du Tacul, a 4200 metre mountain in the French Alps, next to Mont Blanc. I was climbing with my dad during a 3-week expedition in August 2008. We had been climbing for 2 days to reach the summit, staying in mountain huts overnight, and our route involved some technical climbing and a 5-hour summit push.

The weather also allowed us to summit Mont Blanc, at 4808 meters. This 3-day attempt was equally rewarding and just as enjoyable. The climbing trip was hopefully the first of many, and despite the dangers involved in climbing and mountaineering, I enjoy every second spent in the mountains.  Mont Blanc du Tacul, and the Alps in general, have been in the news recently with regards to avalanches - 11 hours after we had descended, an avalanche killed 8 climbers who were following our steps to the summit.
I enjoy climbing for fun and competitively at a national level, and this mountaineering expedition will hopefully be repeated again this year with some school friends. We intend to also climb some bigger, more technical mountains and go further afield in the future.

With all the recent debates about protecting our environment, and the small things that everyone could do, like stopping the disposal of plastic bags, it was decided to design and market an eco... more

I have been paddling in flatwater racing kayaks for just over two years now. During the Summer I was fortunate enough to travel to Spain with the Wey Kayak Club to compete in two Spanish National events over two days. The first was on an estuary where I came 9th in my category in K1 and the second was at altitude on the mountains where I came 5th in my category in K2. During... more

I started racing in 2007 and didn't have any big results, until I finished 4th in the final round of the national U16 road series. In 2008, I started getting some good results; I won a round of the national U16 road series and finished second overall in the series. I also started racing on the velodromes, and at the end of the year I was one of 3 selected for the south/south... more
