The following details will help you enjoy the day so please take a little time to read.

• Venue: Queen Elizabeth Country Park, (PO8 0QE), signed just off the A3 south of Petersfield
• Race Times: All Juniors compete in school year groups, not ages.
• Please arrive at least 40 mins before the start
• Race numbers should be collected on the day, 30 mins before your start time. Your number must be worn on the front with contact and medical details filled in on the back of the number. Please do not swap numbers.

Facilities available are:

• Toilets
• First Aid
• Free parking - follow the signs for free race parking once off the A3 and into QECP. (Parking in the centre car park is chargable.)
• Refreshments.

Please note there are no changing and limited bag storage facilities

The Butser Hill Challenge's full length (run by the Senior participants) is approximately 5 miles which includes three steep ascents and descents of the 888ft hill, the highest point on the South Downs.

The course is rutted in places, with badger scrapes, rabbit holes and flint. It can also be slippery on bare chalk and if the grass is wet.

Please note that in the Event of inclement weather the Race Director reserves the right to shorten the course for the health and safety of runners and marshals.

The year 3-7 races will take place on the lower slopes of the hill, whilst Year 8 and above will complete 1 ascent close to the Trig point in their 3k event.

The senior course is of a Grade ‘B’ short course standard and is marked and marshalled. It is a demanding run and it is therefore essential that competitors are both medically and physically fit.

The grass slopes of Buster Hill can be slippery and as such good trainers are essential. The weather can also be cold and wet so please wear sensible clothing during the event and something warm and dry to change into afterwards.

If the conditions are dry then trainers, road shoes and off-road studs (not football) will be suitable.

In wet conditions off-road studs are recommended, although road shoes with plenty of tread will suffice.

No spikes will be allowed - any runners using them will be disqualified.

Race results for 2024 will be emailed to the participants. 

The event has raised in excess of £200,000 for charities over the years including MND Association, Home-Start Butser and The Rosemary Foundation.

For 2024 we will once again support The New Blendworth Centre, a charity which helps young adults with varying degrees of learning (Registered Charity No: 1152182).

Butser Hill at 889’ is the highest point on the South Downs, overlooking the town of Petersfield and is the natural heart of the South Downs National Park.

Part of the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Butser Hill is set close to the A3 road and the railway line which runs from London to Portsmouth, It has, since the iron age, been an important landmark in Southern England, whilst acting as a historic signalling point for sending messages to and from the capital.
