Four teachers and 29 students spent three days at the Field Studies Council centre at Nettlecombe Court in North Somerset, learning and practising a wide range of established and contemporary data collection and analysis techniques as preparation for their NEAs.

Lead by Emily, our FSC tutor, we returned to the familiar locations of Porlock Bay and Minehead to investigate coastal processes and management, but also visited previously untried sites at Watchet and Taunton to explore place perception and the impacts of rebranding.

The weather was good and allowed games of football, rugby and cricket on the lawn in the sunny evenings.

The students will be putting theory into practice as they select a geographical concept and local destination to form the focus of their own independent investigations, and start to plan individual data collection.
