Model United Nations Conference

A group of nine students from Churcher's College recently took part in a Model United Nations conference, braving not only the intellectual challenges of international diplomacy but also sweltering temperatures exceeding 30 degrees.
Amidst the heat, the students engaged in spirited debates on some of today’s most pressing and contentious global issues, including Pandemic Preparation, Modern Slavery, Nuclear Disarmament, and the Ethics of Cultural Tournaments Hosted by Human Rights Abusers.
The intensity of the discussions reflected both the complexity of the topics and the delegates’ commitment to finding consensus, as they worked tirelessly to draft and pass resolutions.
Sir Malcolm Rifkind
The event was marked by a memorable opening address from Sir Malcolm Rifkind, who urged all participants to remember the importance of giving a voice to those who are not represented or whose voices have been silenced. The experience not only tested the students’ diplomatic skills and resilience but also reinforced the core values of empathy, advocacy, and global citizenship that are central to the Model United Nations ethos.
