Students from the Churcher’s College Law Society and Medical Programme recently came together for a thought-provoking talk by barrister Michael Way, a member of the legal team working on the UK Covid Inquiry.

During the session, Mr Way offered insight into pathways into a career in law, alongside an overview of the purpose and scope of the Covid Inquiry. He explained how the inquiry seeks to learn vital lessons from the government’s handling of the pandemic, drawing on evidence from survivors and bereaved families to help better prepare the country for future crises.

The talk highlighted the real-world impact of law at the highest level, giving students a clearer understanding of how legal work can intersect with public policy, healthcare, and accountability. It also encouraged thoughtful discussion about responsibility, evidence, and the long-term consequences of national decision-making.

Facilitated by Churcher’s parent Jenna Robinson, the session provided a valuable opportunity to bring together students following different academic pathways, united by a shared interest in life beyond Churcher’s. Students left with a deeper appreciation of the role of law in society, and a clearer sense of how their own interests and ambitions might develop in the years ahead.
