14 cadets from Churcher’s College Combined Cadet Force (CCF) recently embarked on a 4-day adventure training trip to Brecon. The group travelled up to their bunkhouse on the first day, making a stop en route for the cadets to shop for food. Throughout the week, the cadets worked in small groups to cater for the rest of the team, putting their planning and teamwork skills to the test.

On the second day, the cadets were divided into 2 groups for mountain biking. One group spent the day at BikePark Wales, tackling a variety of downhill trails ranging from green to red grades. The other group embarked on an adventure-style trail ride. Both groups returned with big smiles, having thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and excitement of the day - mission accomplished! Afterwards, the cadets prepared dinner and attended a briefing for the next day’s activities, before taking part in evening entertainment organised by Lieutenant Newton.

The third day saw the cadets take to the water for a day of canoeing on the canal. Working in pairs, they paddled up and down the waterway, playing games such as water polo. A canoe stake challenge added to the fun; while most managed to stay dry, a few cadets did end up taking an unexpected swim!

On the fourth and final day, the group headed for the hills to test their head for heights. 5 rock climbing routes of varying difficulty were set up, and all cadets successfully tackled each climb and completed an 18-metre abseil. The week was blessed with glorious weather throughout, and, apart from a few unplanned dips in the canal, everyone stayed dry.

The adventure was a resounding success, providing the cadets with memorable experiences and opportunities to develop their teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills.
