Career Bites - Embryology

Embryologist and Director of the Complete Fertility Centre (Southampton), Julia Paget, treated an audience of 4th Year pupils upwards (and a clutch of Biology teachers) to an extremely fascinating talk about the role of an Embryologist.

With footage of the first moments of human life, as one cell divides in to two and then in to a Blastocyst, the audience was blown-away by the sheer miracle of making IVF babies.

Julia not only talked through the Science and practicalities of her work but also provided an insight into the emotional element and absolute privilege in being involved when working so closely in helping couples make a family. It was certainly food for thought for many of our aspiring scientists and medics to see what is involved in a scientific career when coupled with a clinical setting.
