Over February Half Term, 100 staff and students set off from the College at 9.30pm, eager to get to the slopes. After arriving and enjoying a good first night's sleep, we fitted skis early on Sunday morning.

The long journey to get there was thoroughly worthwhile. Although a little overcast until 11am on Sunday morning, the sun broke through the clouds and remained with us for the rest of the week, a quintet of bluebird days. The ten skiing groups roamed the ski Amade area exploring many of the interlinked resorts, visiting Alpendorf, Flachau, Kleinarl, Zachensee, Wagrain and Flachauwinkl. All groups progressed well with some of the GCSE Sport Science students showcasing their skills for submission towards their final mark.

As ever skiing was only half of the equation. A full après ski programme was enjoyed, including swimming, pizza night, quiz and football tournament and topped off with an ice hockey match in Zell am See. The pizza night is always a firm favourite with the students which traditionally involves the devouring of pizza followed by much dancing and singing in the adjoining après ski venue.

All in all the organisation of a single trip this year and no Covid restrictions made this visit to the slopes a breeze! Watch this space for 2024!
