Spider-Man with a Purpose: Teacher’s Epic Fundraising Challenge

We are incredibly proud of Religion & Philosophy teacher and Assistant Head of Pupil Well-Being, Mr. Lofthouse, who has gone above and beyond with his recent fundraising efforts.
Over the Easter holidays, Mr. Lofthouse took on an extraordinary challenge to raise money for Helen & Douglas House, a children’s hospice that cared for Hemming - the nine-year-old son of close friends - during the final weeks of his life.
He completed the Brighton, Paris, and London Marathons, a triathlon near Oxford, an ultra-marathon (50k) in Milton Keynes, and is planning to run another ultra-marathon in Winchester next Monday.
Here are Mr. Lofthouse’s race times:
- 6th April: Brighton Marathon - completed in 4 hrs 31 mins
- 13th April: Paris Marathon - completed in 4 hrs 23 mins
- 18th April: Radley Sprint Triathlon (400m swim, 22k cycle, 5k run) - completed in 1 hr 37 mins
- 19th April: Enigma Ultramarathon (50k) - completed in 6 hrs
Last weekend, he ran the London Marathon dressed as Spider-Man, in honour of Hemming’s favourite superhero. Mr. Lofthouse said:
Running in the Spider-Man mask was brilliant because the crowd loves cheering for Spider-Man - but it was also challenging because it was so hot. Thank you so much to all friends and colleagues who have sponsored me so far. Your generosity is inspiring and has kept me going to the finish line.
