Gold DofE Students Complete Lake District Expedition

At the beginning of July, seven Upper Sixth teams took part in their Final Assessed Expedition in the Lake District for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

This challenging expedition was completed by all teams who would climb high into the mountains each day before dropping down again to camp at night. Most teams chose to wild camp where possible, many for all three nights of the four-day expedition.

Each student who took part showed true resourcefulness as they were unaccompanied and unaided throughout the expedition, carrying everything they needed in rucksacks, sourcing water from streams and converting it to drinking water using a purification system.

The weather remained fine and dry throughout which revealed what one student described as "mind-blowing views" and nature at its best. However they also experienced nature at its worst, with clouds of midges to contend with en route.

Overall, this was a challenging and rewarding expedition, well done to all!
