From Mazes to Magic Gardens: First Years’ Hampton Court Adventure

In June 2025, 150 pupils and staff from the First Year braved the heat and a delayed start to enjoy a thoroughly memorable day out at Hampton Court Palace.
The day was packed with engaging activities designed to bring Tudor history to life. Pupils took part in excellent workshops on ‘Tudor Global Influences’ and ‘Power and Politics in the Tudor Court’. These sessions not only consolidated what they had learned in the classroom but also introduced new ideas to extend their understanding of the period.
The ‘Magic Garden’ proved especially popular, offering a refreshing way to cool down and unwind.
A highlight for many was navigating the famous Hampton Court maze—thankfully, everyone found their way out! The group also toured the magnificent Tudor kitchens, gaining insight into the daily life and grand feasts of the royal court, and explored the impressive state apartments, marvelling at the opulent surroundings.
After a busy morning, pupils enjoyed some well-deserved relaxation in the kitchen garden, soaking up the sunshine. The ‘Magic Garden’ proved especially popular, offering a refreshing way to cool down and unwind.
Despite the heat and a late start, the day was a resounding success, leaving pupils inspired and with a deeper appreciation for Tudor history.
