Fifth Years Tom Milner, Sam Mearns and Joshua Coates have been crowned Lockheed Martin UK Code Quest 2018 champions, competing against fourteen other school teams.

The annual Code Quest competition, which simultaneously takes place at various locations around the world, was developed to challenge and inspire students as part of Lockheed Martin’s focus on science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). Students work in small teams through a set of coding challenges developed by Lockheed Martin information technology professionals, who also assist students during the event.

The winning Churcher’s College pupils worked well as a team, with Sam coding while Tom and Josh worked out difficult algorithms.  As such, they impressed the judges with their speed and ability to problem-solve.

Karen McCathie, Head of Computing at Churchers College, said:

This was the first time we took part in Code Quest and we brought along 3 teams.  We were very excited to win and it will be an inspiration to other students to take up Computer Science and will encourage more students to enter the competition next year.  It was great to see these clever students on the winning podium.

A huge well done to all the pupils who took part in the event, and to the winning team.
