From the moment those familiar notes sounded the intro to Grease is the Word, our ears were filled with electrifyin’ energy and the promise of an evening of 1950s nostalgia… with bells on!

There is a great deal of pressure on the lead roles in any show, but it is to their huge credit that our performers seemed to handle that pressure with the cool calm one would expect from a T-Bird or a Pink Lady. Rizzo had bite, and bucket-loads of sass, Danny’s swagger from start to finish was perfectly pitched and our girl-next-door Sandy was wonderfully demure until that final, much-anticipated transformation!

The choreography was excellent, the synchronisation of so many performers during the fabulous dance scene that opened the second half was a joy to behold. We doubt anyone who watched this show could stop themselves wanting to jump up and join in!

Not only were the ensemble numbers energetic, full of smiles and harmonious but each of the solos were pitch-perfect, too.

Faultless accompaniment from the band throughout allowed all the actors to shine during their solos and dazzle during whole company numbers. Clever staging also allowed them their own moment in the spotlight, being revealed to play the part of the resident band for the dance hall scene.

There was a further standout display of choreography, albeit taking place in the dark, as the wonderful backstage crew seamlessly transformed the set from burger joint, to dance hall, teenage bedroom to drive-in.

The tangible enjoyment of the cast swept over the audience in what was a really fun performance. This toe-tapping, grin-inducing evening of sheer escapism has definitely warmed everyone’s hearts on these chilly February evenings!
