On Friday 10 and Monday 13 May the sun shone on the 30 current students and alumni that achieved their Gold DofE and were invited to attend a Celebration Event at Buckingham Palace.

There were over 8,000 Gold DofE Award holders over the two days to celebrate the young people that have shown extraordinary perseverance, creativity and resilience to complete their Gold DofE.

It was a fantastic opportunity for them all to re-live their Gold Practice, which took place in torrential rain and winds (when the tents blew away and new tents needed to be ordered to arrive overnight) to their gloriously sunny Final Assessed Expedition in the Lake District.

His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, who received his own Gold Award from his father Prince Philip at nearby St James’s Palace in 1986, congratulated attendees in a speech from the Palace’s West Terrace. The Duke also took time to walk amongst Award holders, stopping to discuss the positive impact their DofE had on them.
