Over the December 2025 school holidays, the Senior Adventure Club took 12 Lower Sixth students to Aviemore in Scotland for an introduction to winter mountain skills.

The three days of activity included the use of a ice axe and crampons for walking, ascending steep slopes and arresting a fall. The students all practised these skills before starting their journey that summitted two Munros including Cairngorm at 1245m; enroute they ascended the challenging .5 Gulley from Coire an t-Sneachda.

The final day was spent learning how to dig snow holes and make belays to assist steep ascents and descents.

A full-on but brilliant three days.
